Opening of the exhibition "PIRMS UN PĒC..." in support of Ukrainian scientists

On August 27, 2022, the exhibition "PIRMS UN PĒC..." in support of Ukrainian scientists was opened at the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies. The exhibition is a personal story about Ukraine, about the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS in the Kharkiv Region, and about the life of Ukrainian scientists before and after the invasion of the Russian Federation into the territory of Ukraine.

The life "before" is told by photos from the everyday life of scientists, events, an overview of scientific research and publications related to the date until February 24, 2022. On the other hand, the photographs depicting damage after the Russian aggression directly at the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS tell about life "after".

The exhibition will last until December 2022.22 року.

The initiator of the exhibition is Ilze Vircava, associate professor of the Faculty of Agriculture, Doctor of Geological Sciences. Also, scientists of the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS of Ukraine participated in the training Tetiana Garbovska (PhD (Agr.)) and Yuriy Syromyatnikov (PhD (Teh.)), who are currently on an internship at the Latvian University of Natural Sciences and Technologies.

With this exhibition, the organizers call for the collection of financial assistance for the restoration of the material and technical base of the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS of Ukraine through a charity account.

In addition, the exhibition presents a unique collection of Ukrainian chernozems, which has been kept since 1963 at the Institute of Soil and Plant Sciences at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Latvian University of Natural Sciences and Technologies (LLU). Soil samples were obtained during the expedition in Ukraine and were brought to Latvia by university employees to involve students in the educational process.
