Tasting of selection genotypes of watermelon

August 23, 2022, within the framework of the task 20.00.01.09.F "SCIENTIFIC AND METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF USING GENETICALLY MARKED STARTING MATERIAL IN THE CREATION OF A HETEROSIS HYBRID OF WATERMELON" Stage 2022 "Morpho-genetic analysis of starting material of watermelon and selection of sources of valuable breeding traits, their involvement in the breeding process by hybridization", which is carried out under the leadership of the breeder, Dr. Sci (Agr.), Senior Research Fellow Oksana Volodymyrivna Sergienko, a tasting of fresh produce of 27 selection genotypes (lines, hybrids and promising hybrid combinations of the first generation) of watermelon was conducted according to the following criteria: appearance, flesh color, consistency, juiciness, sweetness, aroma and taste. The members of the tasting commission objectively evaluated the provided samples according to all indicators and actively participated in the discussion of the results. According to the results of the tasting, the seven best new F1 hybrid combinations and five new lines I 4-6 of watermelon, which also contain a marker trait, were selected. Selected genotypes will be used in further selection work to create new competitive watermelon hybrids. The event was attended by residents of the Merefyan Territorial Community.
