Meeting of the Tasting Committee
In accordance with the schedulyfor Task 23.00.02.02 P, «Improving the Yield of Early-Maturing Potatoes Using Organic Farming Methods,» the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Crops will conduct a comparative assessment in 2026 of the yield and marketability characteristics of the country's most common early-maturing potato varieties.
On July 1-2, 2026, as part of the 2026 phase titled «Determining the Varietal Potential of Potatoes in Early Harvest Production,» the IOB of the NAAS held its first tasting committee meeting of the year to evaluate the organoleptic characteristics of 12 potato varieties developed domestically and abroad.
In the Adaptive Vegetable Cultivation, Storage and Standardization Laboratory, samples wereprepared and comprehensively evaluated based on the following criteria: appearance, tenderness, color, odor, quality retention, texture, taste, and the absence of solanine flavor. Project leader Oleksii MELNYK, Ph.D in Agricultural Sciences and senior research fellow, outlined the prospects for further research in this area.
The tasting panel, composed of experts from the IOB NAAS, highly praised the samples presented and providedan objective assessment of their consumer qualities. The tasters noted the high quality of both domestic and imported varieties and identified the most promising ones for early harvest.
