Participation in an extended strategic meeting on the comprehensive assessment of the performance of research institutions, state-owned enterprises and organisations for the period 2021–2025

On 10 June 2026, Oleksii Alforov Director of the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS), took part in an extended strategic meeting on the comprehensive assessment of the performance of research institutions, state-owned enterprises and organisations for the period 2021–2025, which was held at the Presidium of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and chaired by the President of the NAAS, NAAS Academician Ihor Hrynyk, with the participation of the vice-presidents.

A key item on the agenda was a comprehensive assessment of the performance of the Academy’s research institutions, state-owned enterprises and organisations for the period 2021–2025.

The meeting was opened by the President of the NAAS, Ihor Hrynyk. In his opening remarks, he outlined the main areas of the Academy’s work and emphasised the importance of an objective analysis of the performance of subordinate bodies for the further sustainable development of domestic agricultural science in the face of contemporary challenges.

During the meeting, the financial and operational status of the institutions was analysed in detail:

Iryna Zemliana, Head of the Department for Budget Programme Forecasting and Financial Support, presented a thorough analysis of the financial activities of the research institutions and the effectiveness of the use of NAAS budget funds for the period 2021–2025.

Lesia Ponomarova, Head of the Department for Scientific Support of Innovation and Investment Development and Forecasting of the Experimental Base, presented a detailed analysis of the research, experimental, financial and economic activities of the NAAS’s state-owned enterprises and organisations for 2021–2025.

One of the key and extremely important topics of the meeting was the discussion of the logistical support for the research infrastructure. Valerii Adamchuk, Vice-President of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS), delivered a keynote speech on the topic: «The machinery and tractor fleet of research institutions, state-owned enterprises and organisations of the NAAS: Current status and prospects for development.» The report clearly outlined ways to modernise the technical fleet, which is a critically necessary condition for improving the efficiency of implementing scientific developments in actual production.

The meeting participants paid particular attention to the strategic priorities of the agricultural sector. Leading scientists outlined the concept for developing the NAAS seed production system in their expert presentations: the Acting Director of the Institute of Plant Breeding and Genetics – National Centre for Seed Science and Variety Research, NAAS Academician Raisa Vozhehova, and the Acting Director of the State Institution Institute of Cereal Crops of the NAAS, NAAS Academician Vladyslav Cherchel. The Director of the NAAS Institute of Plant Protection, NAAS Academician Oleksandr Borzykh, and the Director of the NAAS Institute of Land Use, NAAS Academician Yosyp Dorosh, also presented their valuable expert insights during the discussion of pressing issues.

Summarising the results of the meeting, the President of the NAAS, NAAS Academician Ihor Hrynyk, emphasised the need to strengthen innovation activities, expand international cooperation, intensify the commercialisation of domestic scientific developments, and comprehensively strengthen the financial stability of the Academy’s institutions.
