Participation in a scientific and practical seminar
On 14 May 2026, the Deputy Director for Research, Dr Oksana SERHIІENKO, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, and the Head of the Department of Vegetable and Melon Breeding, Serhiі KONDRATENKO, PhD in Agricultural Sciences, took part in a scientific and practical seminar involving research institutions of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS) – developers of seeds for households and the general public – which was organised by the Institute of Innovative Bioeconomy.
The theme of the seminar was the development of business models and mechanisms for promoting vegetable, flower, medicinal, essential oil and spice crop seeds produced by NAAS institutions onto the market for the production and distribution of small-packaged seeds under the «Ukrainian Selection» brand.
The seminar addressed the following issues: the market for small-packaged seeds, the potential of agricultural science in the small-packaged seed segment, and the business model for innovative provisioning in the small-packaged seed market.
The position of the NAAS was presented at the seminar by Vice-President A.M. Moskalenko; a report was delivered by S.A. Volodin, Director of the Institute of Innovative Bioeconomy; and a co-presentation was given by V.M. Semtsov, a representative of the National Scientific Centre ‘Institute of Agrarian Economics’.
Sixteen NAAS research institutions specialising in crop production, agriculture and economics took part in the seminar.
In their presentations, experts from leading institutions specialising in the breeding and seed production of vegetables and other socially significant crops – S.I. Kondratenko, V.V. Kyrychenko, V.M. Kabants, V.Yu. Cherchel and O.I. Prysiazhniuk, issues relating to state policy in the seed production sector, the protection of the rights of domestic breeders, and the development of the breeding and technological base for seed production through collaboration with private producers and retailers of small-packaged seeds were raised.
Issues relating to the innovation economy and marketing tools in the seed sector were addressed in presentations by representatives of the economic departments of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (V.M. Zhuk), the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (O.D. Vytvytska) and others.
During the seminar, a state-of-the-art innovation transfer laboratory in the seed sector, established at the Institute of Innovative Bioeconomy using grant funding, was presented, along with the ‘Ukrainian Breeding’ brand start-up.
Following the seminar, a market-oriented model and project-based mechanisms for cooperation between agricultural science and business in the market for small-packaged seeds were proposed.
