Report on the implementation of scientific research programs “Vegetable and melon growing” in 2025
On February 3, 2025, the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences reported on the implementation of the scientific research program “Vegetable and Melon Growing” in 2025.
Scientific Research Program 20 “Vegetable and Melon Growing” is aimed at developing conceptual directions and scientific and practical solutions for creating domestic varieties and hybrids of vegetable and melon plants with a high content of biologically active substances in fruits and their high taste qualities; environmentally friendly, energy-efficient systems for the production of commercial products and seeds for the implementation of applied mechanisms for reforming the domestic agro-industrial complex of the state in the vector of development of Ukraine's European integration policy.
PNAAS 20 “Vegetable and Melon Growing” consists of two first-level tasks: 20.00.01 “Theoretical and methodological basis of the breeding process for creating stress-tolerant varieties and hybrids of vegetable and melon crops based on modern methods of genetics and biotechnology”; 20.00.02 “Scientific and methodological foundations of innovative technologies for the production of seeds and commercial products of vegetable and melon crops.”
Research institutions located in various natural and climatic zones of Ukraine participate in the program, which allows for the ecological adaptation of new varieties and hybrids and their zonal introduction into production. In terms of zoning, the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS works with a network of its research stations: Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Mayak, and five research institutions of the NAAS: the Institute of Horticulture of the NAAS (IH NAAS); Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Development of the NAAS (IARRD NAAS); Institute of Climate-Oriented Agriculture (ICOA NAAS); Cherkasy State Agricultural Research Station of the National Scientific Center “Institute of Agriculture of the NAAS” (Cherkasy SAGDS NNC “IA NAAS”) and Volyn State Agricultural Research Station of the Institute of Agriculture of the Carpathian Region of the NAAS.
In total, 31 second-level tasks were carried out under the Vegetable and Melon Growing Program in 2025, of which 18 were fundamental and 13 were applied.
